Breast uplift- mastoplexy

A breast uplift is generally the preference of those that are happy with the size of their breasts, however are unsatisfied with their firmness, or the effect of gravity on their nipples. The surgery involves making incisions around the breast, and in most cases the surgeon is able to achieve the desired results without using implants depending on the current shape and condition of your breasts and skin.

Preparation

Before undergoing a breast uplift consideration and preparation are vital elements. Those who are considering the procedure should clearly outline their targets, and openly discuss this with their consultant. Those who are considering the procedure should be aware of the risks and complications that can arise, as well as the practical changes that are needed prior to surgery. Patients are required to stop taking medication which alters blood viscosity; including aspirin, birth control and hormone correction. In preparation of surgery it is also highly recommended that patients avoid smoking, to provide a quicker recovery.

Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, iron tablets and certain medications. If you develop a cold or an infection of any kind, especially a skin infection, your surgery may have to be postponed.

After the Operation

The patient will experience minor bruising and swelling. Bending, lifting and straining should certainly be avoided, and it is also advised you sleep on your back to avoid any unnecessary pressure. To get maximum benefits it is recommended that you wear a support bra. Stitches will be removed at around 2-3 weeks following surgery, if they are not removed then they will dissolve automatically.

Recovering from a breast uplift

  • The patient will experience bruising
  • The patient will experience swelling
  • The patient should sleep on their back for an initial period
  • The patient should wear a support bra
  • The patient will need to have stitched removed

For the large majority of adults who under go a breast uplift the results will be a success with no unforeseen consequences. Despite this, the capacity for risks and complications remain, as is the case for almost all surgical procedures.

Risk and Complications

  • Infection is another risk associated with this surgical procedure. Surgeons should always take full care to avoid this as best they can.
  • Patients who have under went breast lift surgery may also run the risk of permanent scarring.
  • Patients may be unsatisfied with their new appearance.
  • Patients may not end up with even breasts.
