Chin & Cheek Augmentation (Enlargement with Implants)
Chin and cheek Augmentation is frequently performed procedure to help balance a face. It is the process by which implants are added to the chin or cheeks which enhances and strengthens the profile making the specific areas more prominent. Cheek implants can be placed in a lateral or frontal position depending on the specific aims of the surgery.
It is important to focus on what your aims are and to discuss this with a member of the team at the McLean Academy. In some cases patients feel they have a large nose and require surgery to the nose, but after discussion and consultation with the surgeon it is found that chin or cheek enhancement will make the nose less prominent.
Preparation
Consider all aspects of the chin or cheek augmentation, list all the benefits and risks you feel are involved and then take this list with you when you come to visit the McLean Academy. Use the list as the basis on which your discussion will centre and talk through with a member of staff your concerns and expectations. Especially consider the result you hope to achieve.
Both chin and cheek Augmentation can be performed under general or local anesthesia. It is important to follow the advice given by your surgeon prior to attending the hospital.
Remove all makeup from the face prior to attending the clinic.
After the operation
Surgery lasts no more than 1 hour usually and it is likely that your case will be treated as a day patient, allowing you to return home soon after the operation.
It is likely that you will suffer some discomfort for a few days, brusing and swelling may occur for between 1 to 2 weeks. Treat swelling by applying cold to the treated area. A liquid diet is adviable for the first few days.
In most cases the cuts are made to the inside of the mouth, which results in scarring not being visible. By using absorbable stitches they don't require removal and will be absorbed and disappear over a short period of time. If skin incisions are used, stitches will be removed in 5 days.
You should be able to apply make up the day following your surgery and your normal features should return within one to two weeks. Do not engage in any form of exercise for a two week period.
Risks and Complications
- general complications from any operation may occur, adverse bleeding, reaction to anaesthetic, infection.
By nature, all medical procedures carry an element of risk. While the majority of patients do not experience any complications, before embarking on any medical procedure, it is advisable to consult fully with the Mclean Academy so that our qualified staff can suitably discuss any risk or concerns that your procedure may pose. Chin and Cheek Augmentations are surgical procedure with very minimal risks. |
