A neck lift operation is a procedure aimed at reducing the affect of sagging skin around the jaw line and neck. The procedure is generally undertaken by patients that are aiming for a younger looking appearance and to reduce the physical affects of aging around the face and neck area.
Neck lift surgery should last around 2 to 3 hours, however may take longer if you have choose to have this completed at the same time as another operation such as a brow lift, liposuction or face lift for example. The procedure generally involves the patient initially receiving two incisions behind the ears, skin can them be trimmed, and the altered and lifted before being sutured into place with an adhesive. The skin can often be tightened further behind the ear when it is necessary.
Preparation
Before undergoing neck lift surgery consideration and preparation are vital elements. Those who are considering the procedure should clearly outline their targets, and openly discuss this with their consultant. Those who are considering the procedure should be aware of the risks and complications that can arise, as well as the practical changes that are needed prior to surgery. Patients are required to stop taking medication which alters blood viscosity; including aspirin. After the Operation
Patients will be required to keep their head elevated for a period of two weeks following surgery, whilst patients will also suffer bruising and swelling in the first four to six weeks following surgery. Patients need to be careful when moving, and should avoid moving this until they are fully healed. Deciding when to go back to work following neck lift surgery is something that is best discussed with your surgeon.
Recovering from Neck Lift Surgery

- Bruising and swelling in the first 6 weeks
- Patients will not be able to return to work for some time following surgery
For the large majority of adults who under go a neck lift the results will be a success with no unforeseen consequences. Despite this, the capacity for risks and complications remain, as is the case for almost all surgical procedures.
